ChemTech strives to develop strategic partnerships

ChemTech strives to develop strategic partnerships with industrial research teams that see strategic long term opportunities in cooperating with the university. Such strategic partners may share infrastructure with the university, operate in the proximity of the university, and exchange staff with the university. Strategic partnerships grow over time and are usually the result of an existing long-term relationship.

Framework Partnerships

With several industrial and independent research centers UGent cooperates on a very regular basis covering multiple research projects over many years. In such cases often a framework agreement is arranged between the university and the third party. Such agreement facilitates the collaboration as it avoids lengthy negotiations for each joint project. The framework agreement stipulates the rules agreed upon across all projects and arranges amongst others IP ownership, cost sharing, compensation arrangements, and publication possibilities.

Some of the publicly announced framework agreements include partnerships with:

  • Recticel - manufacturer of polyurethane foam products
  • Proctor & Gamble - manufacturer of product ranges including personal care, household cleaning, laundry detergents, prescription drugs and disposable nappies
  • Bekaert - metal transformation & coatings, drawn steel wire products
  • Umicore - global materials technology group
  • Complix - a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of Alphabodies
