Connecting Expertise Event on December 20 - 06/12/2016

On December 20, 2016, ChemTech is organizing its first Connecting Expertise Event: "Chemistry Tools to advance Life Sciences; Opportunities through ChemTech Inventors Eyes

In recent years the ChemTech patent portfolio has grown rapidly and we hereby take the opportunity to present our novel chemical findings to a larger research community within Ghent. The inventors of the novel chemical technologies will present in a comprehensive and inspiring manner the invention, the technical challenges and application opportunities to an audience of P.I.’s, professors and senior post docs. We expect to share varied views of our science and connect it to your research topics. The event will spotlight novel findings from research labs of Prof. Annemieke Madder, Prof. Johan Van der Eycken, Prof. Johan Winne, Prof. Peter Dubruel and Prof. Richard Hoogenboom.

The objective of the event is:

  • to advance multidisciplinary research among UGent, UZGent and VIB-Gent (and Cancer Research Institute Ghent) research groups.
  • to open up new avenues for joint funding opportunities
  • to introduce and jointly explore IOF project funding
  • to strengthen our UGent patent portfolio
  • to co-develop, support and build PoC to increase license opportunities
  • to think outside the box by joining expertise across a range of disciplines
  • to network with drinks and snacks

Professors and researchers will present their innovative chemistries in the fields of novel compounds, novel bioconjugate & linking technologies, functional & smart polymeric materials, polymers for biomaterials and regenerative medicines, nanocarriers & nanomedicines, drug delivery & formulation, polymers suitable for electrospinning & 3D printing for medical applications and beyond. To enhance the interactions between the presenters and participants, and in particular to facilitate idea sharing, multiple networking breaks are foreseen.

13:00: Welcome & Opening speech by Prof. Herman Van Langenhove, Member UGent Executive Board & Chair Industrial Research Fund

13:30: Short presentations – Part one
14:20: Network & Healthy break
14:50: Short presentations – Part two
15:40: Network & Coffee break
16:10: Short presentations – Part three
17:15: Network reception with drinks and snacks.

The presentations will be held in English.

UGent shortlisted for Emerging Technologies Competition (Royal Society of Chemistry) - 18/05/2016

Ghent University has been selected for the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) 2016 Emerging Technologies Competition.

Ghent University and ESPCI researchers have developed an industrially applicable chemical strategy for the production of vitrimers, which are thermoset materials that can be reprocessed after heating. This results in high end materials that can be easily and reliably processed, healed, recycled or reshaped, without damaging the material’s structural integrity.

UGent will pitch its novel vitrimer composite matrix to a panel of experts, in front of a live audience, on 15 June 2016 at Chemistry Means Business.
The Emerging Technologies Competition is the Royal Society of Chemistry’s annual innovation initiative, turning promising ideas into commercial reality.
