“BioGelator: self assembling peptide platform for subcutaneous injection”


With the support of the IOF (Industrieel Onderzoeks Fonds) we have an open position for a 2-year project. We are hiring a project manager with good knowledge of pharmaceutical science and/or experience in drug development and drug delivery systems.

The goal of the Project manager is to join forces with the research teams actively working on the Biogelator technology at both VUB and UGent and to evaluate the market opportunity and prepare a solid valorization strategy with support of a Senior Business Developer. We aim to build a roadmap to transfer this valuable proprietary technology to the market.


Job description

The Project Manager will be a central person in the project who will interact closely with the researchers and business development manager.

In this role you will:
• Evaluate the research data related to the Biogelator technology
• Organize frequent meetings with Professors, Researchers and Business Development team.
• Support the translation of R&D concepts to market opportunities
• Study the market opportunity and identify competitive and alternative technologies
• Identify unmet medical needs for delivery of small molecules, peptides, proteins, DNA and RNA and cell delivery.
• Interact closely with industry and key opinion leaders
• Screen new patent opportunities and evaluate freedom to operate
• Select clinically and economically relevant payloads for preclinical pipeline.
• Prepare roadmap to transfer Biogelator technology to the market.
• Initiate data package for multi-licensing strategy and/or prepare project application for potential spin-off strategy

Profile and Competencies

• A Master or PhD in life sciences, preferably in Pharmaceutical Science
• Experience in domain of drug delivery is an asset.
• Experience with the project writing and management is an asset
• Broad technical and interpersonal skills to coordinate collaborations between teams with different technical/scientific background.
• Good communication and writing skills (at least Dutch and English)
• Being able to work accurate, independently as well as in team is essential.
• Dynamic and sense of initiative.
• Excellent social and communicative competencies and customer oriented.
• Basic knowledge of aspects of business development/valorisation like IP/patents and basic contracts (CDA, MTA) is an asset.
• Special interest in applied research and in the maturation of technologies towards industrial applications/products
